May 15, 2007: IVORY KEY CLUB RECEPTION
On Tuesday, May 15th, the Choral Guild hosted a reception in the LHS AUditorium in celebration of our new Steinway B Grand Piano! The mahogany piano was completed in Steinway's New York factory on November 9, 1916 and sold to Lyon & Healy, the leading harp manufacturer of the time, in Chicago, IL on November 14, 1916. On its recent return to Steinway, the piano was completely rebuilt and ebonized.
At the reception, the choirs performed songs chosen to highlight the beautiful tones of the piano, while two pianists (one an LHS orchestra student; the other, LHS teacher and original Piano Fund benefactor, Jim Catlette) showcased the piano on its own. Choral Guild President, Eileen Roach Smith, awarded our top coffee seller, Sean Fischer, with an iPod Nano, and presented Dr. Lambert with "The Making of a Steinway," a book to commemorate the evening. Following the final choral number, "Why We Sing," performed by all the LHS choirs, guests were treated to an array of delicious baked goods, on tables decorated with white tablecloths, silver punch bowls and platters, and red roses. McLean resident, Susan Pishvaian, catered the wonderful event. It was a phenomenal evening all around!
