2007-08 Volunteer Opportunities
The Choral Department has a busy school year and we need everyone’s help to ensure that our programs are successful. Volunteering is a wonderful way to support your child’s choral experience. Please take a look at the descriptions below and then view our Parent Volunteer Form to volunteer in an area of your interest. Keep in mind that a number of these tasks require less than an hour of your time.
General Concert Support: Volunteers on this Committee perform a multitude of behind-the-scenes jobs important to the success of our concerts. From publicity, programs, artwork, stage and lobby decorations to ticket sales and photography/videography – the volunteer opportunities are numerous and varied.
Hospitality: We offer light refreshments at most of our concerts. Our Hospitality Coordinators arrange for refreshment donations that are offered on the refreshment table at the concerts. Volunteers sign on to donate drinks or baked goods (homemade or picked up from your favorite grocery store) at one or more of the concerts. We also need volunteers to help with set-up, serving, and clean-up at our end-of-year Choral Awards Potluck Picnic. Fundraising: The Choral Guild sponsors a number of fundraisers during the school year. This year the funds will be used to help students pay for their Spring Performance Tour to Italy. Currently, volunteers are needed to help with the Coffee Sale in September/October and Holiday Greens Sale in October/Noember. We also need parents to help with our Choral Car Washes in the spring and/or fall and the Spaghetti Dinner in January.
Renaissance Madrigal Feaste: This event is possible every year because of the parents who volunteer to help. Imagine a beautiful dining hall, walls draped with holiday greenery and banners reminiscent of 16th-century England; 100-plus choir students costumed in renaissance-style garb; tables to seat 150 adorned with decorations; great food and drink; and phenomenal entertainment by our Madrigals backed by the rest of our wonderfully talented choir students. Since the show runs for two nights, many parents come enjoy the show one night and volunteer to help on the other night.
Spring Trip: While the Trip Coordinator assists the Choral Director with all aspects of our Spring Trip, a few volunteers are needed prior to the trip to help with photocopying and assembling trip notebooks. In addition, we need about a dozen chaperones, each of whom will be responsible for a small group of students as we travel to Italy in early April.
Wardrobe: Volunteers are needed to assist the Wardrobe Coordinators as they work on costuming the choir members for their parts in our Renaissance Madrigal Feaste. We need 3-4 volunteers in early November to help fit choir members for their Madrigal Feaste costumes, 4-5 volunteers at the Feaste to assist the students with their costumes (some basic "quick fix" sewing skills are always a plus for those last minute adjustments), and one or two volunteers in May to help measure and fit the next school year’s Madrigals. For those with sewing ability/talent, you may want to volunteer to alter existing costumes or help make new renaissance-style costumes for the Madrigals! Choir Parents: At least two parents per choir are needed to help support and assist Dr. Lambert with administrative details (money/forms collection) and coordinating extracurricular events (parties, etc). Additional responsibilities would include taking photos during choral events (in and out of school) for submission to the choral website.
